Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 24, 2013
Back in May and over the summer of 2012, LAST RESORT looked to be one of, if not, the best dramas coming to TV for the 2012-13 season. Even going against THE BIG BANG THEORY and the FOX talent shows, we hope/wanted the series to do well enough to survive, then thrive. Well, that didn't happen. After the first few episodes, the ratings fell fell through the floor and ABC announced LAST RESORT would not come back after its initial 13 episodes. Last night was that 13th episode.
LAST RESORT pulled in 5.5 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in Adults 18-49 for the last episode. That was up 20% in the A18-49 demographic and about 400k in viewers. For those that did miss the series, it will soon be on Netflix and you can spend a weekend watching this promising series.
Returning from a long hiatus was BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The freshman series drew 1.8 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating. Thats up about 20% from its last original episode, back on December 13, 2012. Even the retention rate from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was improved by 10 percentage points to 76.4% from 66.6%. BATB is on the fence for a second season, but other CW series are not fairing well, outside of Wednesday & Thursday nights.
For a second Thursday in a row, FOX and AMERICAN IDOL take the night with 15.7 million viewers and a 5.2 demo rating. Both ABC and CBS post 2.0 demo ratings, but CBS' 9.3 million viewers bests ABC's 6.7 million viewers. NBC settles in 4th place with 3.8 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, and The CW brings up the rear with 2.3 million viewers and a 1.0 demo.
