Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 17, 2013
FOX continued to dominate the ratings with night two of the AMERICAN IDOL season premiere. The two hour program pulled in 16.3 million viewers and a 5.6 in the A18-49 ratings. That was a drop of 10% in total viewers and just 7% in the demo. Considering the stronger competition on Thursdays, that is a very good day-to-day retention rate.
ABC edged CBS for second in the A18-49 ratings with a 2.2 average on the night, despite a low performance by already cancelled LAST RESORT. ABC has just one more week of the military drama before it is gone for good. Look for a complete series release on DVD/streaming by the start of summer.
CBS did finish second in total viewers with a an average of 9 million viewers, lead by the unstoppable THE BIG BANG THEORY. The repeat airing pulled in 11.6 million viewers and an impressive 3.2 demo rating. It helped set the pace for the night as CBS had three of the top four watched programs of the night
NBC is still looking for a second freshmen hit this season as 1600 PENN picked up where UP ALL NIGHT left off. The new comedy lost 27 % of viewers from its lead in and nearly 50% in the demo ratings. 1600 PENN was the lowest rated program on NBC and the BIG 4.
The CW finally gave us a new episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, after a long holiday layoff. The 2.95 million viewers and 1.4 demo rating is on par with its season average. But why the CW not give us a new episode of THE CARRIE DIARIES to air after TVD? Airing the premiere episode for a third time in 4 days does not help the series at all.
