Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 14, 2013
The CW premiered its new drama, THE CARRIE DIARIES, a prequel to HBO's SEX IN THE CITY. With as much hype and publicity The CW could muster, the new series pulled in 1.6 million viewers and a 0.6 rating on Adults 18-49. This represents roughly a 60% increase than the averages 90210 or GOSSIP GIRL would bring in on the same night. THE CARRIE DIARIES may not be a smash hit, like ARROW, but it could be a solid performer, for The CW.
With DANCING WITH THE STARS, THE VOICE and MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, FOX and CBS saw ratings improvement with its Monday night series. CBS lead the night in all categories as all five programs posted season highs. 2 BROKE GIRLS led the night with 12.5 million viewers and a 4.1 demo rating. You have to go back to its freshmen season to see numbers this strong, for the 2nd year comedy.
FOX had its best Monday night of the season with two hours of BONES. The always stable and strong drama pulled in an average of 7.9 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating. If BONES can continue as a strong lead in and THE FOLLOWING is even half way decent in the ratings, FOX could be back on the rebound.
ABC may be down in total viewership on the night, but THE BACHELOR is now the stronger performer in the A18-49 demo ratings than DWTS. Compared to the second week of last fall's DWTS season, THE BACHELOR improved in the demo ratings by almost 20%. If this trend holds up, I would not be surprised if ABC flips the two reality programs, giving us two editions of THE BACHELOR/BACHELORETTE during the regular season and one edition of DWTS in between the two.
NBC is obviously down dramatically while THE BIGGEST LOSER fills in until the next edition of THE VOICE. But the self fitness series is not completely dropping the ball. It is staying competitive with ABC and is still beating FOX on the night. However, WEEK two of the new series DECEPTION is not promising. From last week's premiere, the freshman drama lost 27% in viewers and 20% in the demo ratings. Lets see how long DECEPTION keeps the Monday night slot before NBC moves it to another night or pulls it from the schedule.
