Top 40 Weekly Cable Ratings: Week of 10/08/12

THE WALKING DEAD posted the best ever ratings for a scripted program with 10.87 million viewers tuning in for the 3rd season premiere. It also bested all programs, including MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, with a 5.8 rating in Adults 18-49.

The phenomenon that is THE WALKING DEAD is amazing, especially when you consider that it is AMC that is airing the series. The Network is almost completely ignored most of the time, yet it can produce numbers that the broadcast networks salivate over. I am surprised that copy cat series have not popped up yet, from either broadcast or cable.

FOX News Channel once again got mileage from the political season.Its Thursday programs surrounding the VP debate all did very well, including a whopping 8.3 million viewers for ON THE RECORD at 10:30 p.m. that night.

TBS had a nice week with its continued coverage of the MLB PLAYOFFS. Eight games were in the top 25 chart, the best coming for Game #1 of the ALCS game of Yankees vs Tigers on Saturday night.

USA had an off week, not placing a single program in the top 20. its best showing was WWE RAW at #23.
