Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 20, 2012
When your networks season premieres can't our perform another networks all repeat line up, you know it will be a long TV season. That is what happened to NBC and this is how their Thursdays will look for the next 9 months.
NBC premiered its Thursday line up and could not do better than CBS and its final encores of its returning series. Kicking things off for NBC was SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and their short season filler WEEKEND UPDATE. It posted the best numbers of the night for NBC, getting 5.15 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in Adults 18-49. Following SNL was UP ALL NIGHT. UAN lost nearly 40% of the audience built by SNL and 19% of the demo.
At 9:00pm, was the final season premiere of THE OFFICE. The audience numbers were up from UAN, to a still unimpressive 4.3 million viewers. The demo ratings rose over 60% to a mediocre 2.1. It is a good thing THE OFFICE is in its final season because its almost embarrassing to see how far and quick the series has dropped.
PARKS AND RECREATION followed THE OFFICE, at 9:30, and more lows were recorded. P&R drew 3.5 million viewers and a 1.7 demo ratings. That is a drop of 19% in both viewers and A18-49.
If this trend does continue, could we see the return of Matthew Perry on Thursday nights, on NBC?
Closing the night was ROCK CENTER. it rose in viewers, but lost a good chunk of the demo from P&R.
Over on FOX was week two of THE X-FACTOR and GLEE. The X-FACTOR rose nearly 2 million viewers and 13% in the demo ratings. A good increase for week two, but mainly as the result of the absence of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.
GLEE's numbers were mostly flat from the week before. just a small drop in the demo ratings, from a 3.1 to a 2.9. The two series should do well for FOX, but they will not dominate the night. That will happen next week, by CBS.
