Over the Weekend: April 13-15, 2012
Friday saw a shared leadership in the 18-49 demographic ratings. Both CBS and ABC posted meager 1.5 demo ratings on the night. ABC had it's regular line up, while CBS took a small hit with the a Linel Richie concert preempting both CSI: NY and BLUE BLOODS. The special drew 7.7 million viewers (#1 on the night) and a 1.4 demo rating (#5). UNDERCOVER BOSS was the top program of the night in the demo ratings.
On Saturday, FOX's new Saturday Night sports night is paying off. The NASCAR race in Texas drew 6.2 million viewers and a very nice (for Saturdays) 1.8 demo ratings. Easily the top program of the night.
ABC began airing(dumping) its TITANIC mini-series. It was able to produce above average numbers for the network, but why ABC thought there was a need for a new version of the story, I have no idea. Especially when you consider that James Cameron's TITANIC is in the theaters NOW, in 3D! Horrible programming decision.
One last note on Saturday. There was actually 9 hours of original programing on the night. That's only 3 hours of encores/repeats. The slightly higher numbers do reflect it.
On Sunday, TITANIC sunk the ABC ratings. A sub 1 demo rating on the 9pm hour and brought down GCB's numbers down to series lows.
CBS had the series premiere of NYC 22. It posted decent numbers, considering where it was placed. it held roughly 90% of the viewers (80% of the demo) from THE GOOD WIFE's lead in. If CBS was really wanting this series to succeed, then it would not have premiered in this time slot. At the very least, it would have had a special premiere airing after one of its drama hits, like NCIS, CRIMINAL MINDS or POI.
The most watch program on Sunday was 60 MINUTES, with close to 11 million viewers. Tops in the demo ratings was THE AMAZING RACE with a 2.6 rating average.
