TV Series of the Decade
I just realized that we are coming to the end of the decade of the 2000's. Just a few weeks before we enter the Teens decade (10-19). It got me wondering about what TV shows people will remember/associate with this decade.
We always think about Seinfeld for the 90's. The Cosby Show, LA Law for the 80's and Happy Days for the 70's. But what about the 2000's? What shows will we look back and say "Those were the shows for that decade?
I have my choices, but everyone has different tastes. Drama's, Comedies, Sci-Fi, Cops Shows, Reality, and so on. Plus, this is the first decade that Cable TV Shows have made a big impact on the TV viewing audience. So I think we do need to categorize our list for "Best Shows of the Decade."
The Categories will be:- Comedies
- Life Reality
- Game Reality
- Drama
- Procedural
- Sci-Fi
A series must have had 3 season during the decade, and lets not forget those series that aired early in the decade, but are no longer on the air.

There are a lot of choices. Those that I do watch and those that don't. American Idol is the Biggest series of the decade, by ratings popularity, but Survivor started this current trend of Reality game shows.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the best Drama is House. Its not soapy, but is well acted, interesting and a big player in the ratings game.
Comedy is actually the hard one to chose from. You have a good crop of current comedies in HIMYM, Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, The Office, but Friends was on for 4 season this decade. Everybody loves Raymond was on for 5.
I think BBT can be the next "classic TV" series of the bunch. Be remembered as this decade's SEINFELD.
Reality. I prefer the cable series in this genre. I think Mythbusters has a classic presents that viewers will remember as our parents/grand-parents use to remember Mr. Wizard when they were kids.
Sci-Fi - This genre has taken a hit. Heroes could have been that show, but it only had one season worth talking about. Some say Lost is Sci-Fi, but I don't. For Me, this decade's Sci-Fi series is Battle Star Galactica. One of the best reimagings of a previous series and one of the few successful ones.
The 200's will be remembered as the decade of the procedural. CBS dominated with their lineup full of this genre. Science meets cops show was a very successful combination. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is the King of this category. It could be said it is THE series of the Decade. It came out of nowhere and was the show to knock NBC down off its Thursday Night Dominance, which was 15 years long.
