1989 - Mel Blanc, the "man of a thousand voices," died at age 81. He was known for such cartoon characters as Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig.
2003 - PBS' Soundstage returned to TV with a performance from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The show had not aired in over 18 years when it ran from 1974 to 1985.
