Preliminary Ratings: Tuesday 10/09/2018

ABC nearly pulled off a rare 2018-19 nightly win, thanks to the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS. The annual event attracted 6.6 million viewers and posted a 1.8 rating in Adults 18-49. That is a drop of 2.6 million viewers and 25% in the demo, from last year's ceremony.

NBC averaged 8.3 million viewers and a 1.8 rating in the A18-49 demo. THE VOICE lead off the night with nine million viewers and a solid 1.8 demographic rating, while THIS IS US grew the demo to a 2.3 rating, while losing just 200,000 viewers, at 9 PM. New medical drama, NEW AMSTERDAM, retained 7.1 million viewers and posted a 1.4 rating in the A18-49 demographic.

CBS was the most watched network, averaging 9.7 million viewers, plus a .1 demo rating, for its three crime dramas. NCIS grabbed 1.2 million viewers and a 1.4 demo, at 8 PM, leading into freshman series, FBI. That 9 PM program held onto 9.1 million viewers and a 1.0 demo. NCIS: NEW ORLEANS closed the night, with 7.9 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating.

FOX was a distant fourth on the night, as THE GIFTED drew just 2.1 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating. LETHAL WEAPON followed up by keeping all of the demographic audience and growing the viewership by 900,000 viewers. FOX's average was 2.6 million viewers and a 0.7 demo.

The first season premiere of the CW season began on the night, with THE FLASH scoring 2.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in Adults 18-49, topping THE GIFTED, head-to-head. At 9 PM, season two of BLACK LIGHTNING kicked off with 1.2 million viewers and a 0.4 demo, about half of the audience as THE FLASH. That give the CW an average of a 0.6 demo and 1.7 million viewers.
