Ratings Review: DOCTOR WHO (Season Eight)

The twelfth doctor of the DOCTOR WHO series hit BBC America early in the 2014-15 fall TV season. It continues the story of the time traveling Doctor and his companion, for an eighth season of the latest reboot of the franchise.  Will it be a ratings hit?

Being a "hit show" may be relative. DOCTOR WHO is one of the best rated shows on BBC America, but it is a cable network that usual sees very low ratings for most of its shows. I tend to not call it a hit because of the huge losses the series experienced after the premiere. By week five, less than half the audience is still watching the series, on Saturday nights, and only half watched the season finale, usually one of the better rated episodes of most TV series.

For the season, DOCTOR WHO averaged 1.13 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in Adults 18-49. There will be plenty more of DOCTOR WHO in the future. It serves a small niche audience that loves the franchise.
