Ratings Review: THE BLACKLIST (Season Two)
THE BLACKLIST may be NBC's best rated, scripted program in many years, and this year is no different. It is now THE drama of the network and will help NBC recover from a decade, or more, of poor scheduling and ratings.
This season, the series will have two separate chunks, during the 2014-15 season. The fall season, was just 8 episodes long, to reestablish the 10 p.m. time slot as a solid win for NBC. It turned the hour over to the new series STATE OF AFFAIRS on November 17th.
The series will return on Super Bowl night, February 1st, before settling in its new time period, Thursdays at 9 p.m. The series will be vital if NBC wants to become the "Must See TV" network it once was, during the 80's and 90's.
With all that good news, THE BLACKLIST was not the hot new drama it was last year. HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER is doing this season, what THE BLACKLIST did last season. Dominating its time period and hauling in awesome L+7 ratings. Often, the ABC drama would out deliver THE BLACKLIST on all ratings charts.
But, the numbers THE BLACKLIST draws is still very good. It adds about 65% of its total audience after the first day of airing, within the first week. the A18-49 number jump about two full ratings points within the first seven days. So far this season, with two more Mondays to be reported, THE BLACKLIST originals have grown by +71% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.77 to a 4.73) and 6.3 million viewers (10.3 million to 16.6 million) going from L+SD to L+7. (Though 10/27).
For the fall season, THE BLACKLIST averaged 10.07 million viewers and a 2.7 rating in Adults 18-49. When the series returns on Thursdays, it will have its hands full, going up the ABC hit drama SCANDAL. Who do you think will win that ratings battle?
