CW Weekly Ratings: October 6 - 10, 2014
To sat that THE FLASH made a major impact on the CW, would be an understatement. The new superhero could be that show that completely changes the network. Not unlike what THE COSBY SHOW did for NBC in the 80's, THE SIMPSONS did for FOX in the 90's or CSI did for CBS in the 2000's.
The FLASH series premiere commanded 4.8 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in Adults 18-49. It beat everything on both ABC and FOX, including topping the ratings of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. THE CW was the #3 network in the A18-49 ratings and $3 in total viewers.
Continuing the good news was the season premiere of ARROW. It grabbed the second most viewers for the network and was one of the three shows to earn a demo rating of a 1.0 or above. The CW may have found its niche programming audience, that can also play to a wider general audience.
The news wasn't so rosy for the season premiere of THE ORIGINALS, on its new night. Of the programs in original episodes, THE ORIGINALS only drew more viewers than TOP MODEL and REIGN. However, it is head and shoulders above what the network has previously placed on the night, in recent years.
For the week, the CW averaged 2.01 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in Adults 18-49. The first steps toward a being a viable competitor in the network ratings may have been taken with THE FLASH. Now, we will see if the next steps can continue in the right direction.
