Ratings Review: THE MICHAEL J FOX SHOW (Season One)
It looked, initially, that American viewers were ready for Michael J Fox to return to comedy TV. The premiere episode was one of the best numbers by a comedy, on Thursday Night, in a long time. But, it was not long before America abandoned the sitcom. By the third episode, viewership dipped under four million and by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, it had gone under three million.
The time-shifted viewing had also dwindled. The premiere had added nearly three million viewers, within seven days of the air date, but the last reported L+7 numbers had less then a million watching the show beyond it's air date.
I did watch the series for about two to three weeks before giving up on it. There was something off about it. not sure if it was the overused testimonials format the sitcom used, or if was just not cast well. The writing was OK, but nothing special. it just didn't click for me, and I really wanted it to.
For the 14 weeks THE MICHAEL J FOX SHOW aired, it averaged 3.57 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49. The series did produce all 22 episodes ordered by NBC, but is is not currently know if NBC will air them or not. A lot will depend on how well, or poor, the mid-season shows do, after the Olympics. If those episodes to find their way to the TV screen, we will add them to this Ratings Review.
