Ratings Review: THE VOICE (Fall 2013)

There is no doubt about it, THE VOICE is the #1 talent competition series in America. It has displaced AMERICAN IDOL from it's perch and easily held off THE X FACTOR as a series threat. Yet, beaded on this season's ratings, you have to question how much longer will THE VOICE be a hit for NBC.

Comparing the season premiere to the season finale, the series lost just one million viewers and 22% in the A18-49 demographic ratings. But for almost the whole season, ratings fell each week. It's lowest point was at the end of November, when it drew just a 3.0 demo rating and 10.35 million viewers. Again, comparing that to the premiere episodes, THE VOICE had lost 4.6 million viewers and 41% of it's A18-49 audience. The last two episodes, which make up the two part finale, just 12.68 million viewers watched the final performances of the last three contestants.

For the season, THE VOICE averaged 12.60 million viewers and a 3.7 rating in Adults 18-49 for the 26 episodes, which includes one recap episode and one repeat episode. The next edition will ramp up in March 2014 and I expect a very similar ratings chart for that season. Starting out big and slowly losing viewers as the season progresses.
