Ratings Review: TALKING DEAD (Fall 2013)

It was another successful season for TALKING DEAD, the official talk show about the hit series THE WALKING DEAD.

Since last season, when AMC moved the show directly after the drama series, the ratings have really taken off. The premiere grabbed over 5 million viewers, a little less then 1/3 of the audience of THE WALKING DEAD premiere.

Each of the following episode averaged around 1/3 of the audience that tuned in for the parent series. That may sound like horrible retention, but for what TALKING DEAD sets out to do each week, it is pretty great. I mean, it is basically a podcast, but on TV.

The mid-season finale did great numbers. Best of the series. Not in just total number of viewers and demo ratings, but in retention. It held onto roughly 50% of the audience that watched THE WALKING DEAD mid-season finale.

For the fall, TALKING DEAD averaged 4.58 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in Adults 18-49. Think about those numbers. They are better than all the NBC comedies. Better than the new ABC comedies, and Better than about half of the FOX fall schedule. In my mind, AMC was genius to create a new genre of programming, on TV.
