DANCING WITH THE STARS showed signs of aging this past fall as the ratings fell of for what was to be an up year with the All-Star edition. Comparing the Spring 2012 season to the Fall 2012 season, DWTS season premiere was down 25% in total viewers and a 29% in the A18-49 demographic ratings. The opener when from being the #2 ranked program in March of 2012 to the #9 ranked program. The Fall 2012 season averaged 13.4 million viewers and a 2.2 demo rating.
As ABC and DANCING WITH THE STARS enter the Spring 2013 edition of the series, It is an unknown what the future of the program has in-store. It may get scaled down to just one edition each year or, if the downward trend continues, a complete cancellation of the program. My thoughts are to scale it back to just one edition each year, with a February - May schedule. And, since Sundays Nights are not as solid for ABC, go to a Sunday/Monday format and stay away from THE VOICE, for now.
