US Box Office Results: June 2 - 4, 2017


"Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.

DC's WONDER WOMAN dominated the weekend's box office, collection just over 100 Million in its first three days of release. it is the best opening for a film directed by a woman, besting 50 SHADES OF GREY. The Action film is a top 20 opening for a Superhero film, doing better than the Original IRON MAN and the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Among DC Comic films, it has the 6th best opening, falling just under MAN OF STEEL.

Another superhero, of sorts, was the #2 film of the weekend, as CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS grossed $23.5 million, topping second week release, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DMTNT. The animated movie should exceed 70 million, perhaps getting above $80 million, in its domestic release.

A quick look at movies that my be in the top 10 for the last time, the comedy SNATCHED, ranking 8th, did gross over its $42 million production budget, now at $44 million. DIARY OF A WHIMPY KID (#9) is still below $20 million, for a movie that cost $22 million to make. And finally, KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD, will end its top 10 run at just over $37 million, more than $135 million short of its production cost.

  10. $1.170 million - King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
