US Box Office Results: October 24 - 26, 2014

The board game inspired movie OUIJA was the weekend's top movie, grabbing $20 million in its first weekend of release. OUIJA has one of the strongest opening weekends by a horror flick, this year, besting recent release, ANNABELLE. But, don't expect long legs from the film as it should have a total box office gross under $50 million.

The new action film, JOHN WICK, starring Keanu Reeves, opened to a disappointing  total of just over $14 million. That is $4 million more than his previous movie, 47 RONIN, released last December. It is the actors third best opening weekend, in the last 10 years, behind 2005's CONSTANTINE ($29.8 million) and 2008'w THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL ($30.5 million).

Off the chart, in very limited release, BIRDMAN, starring Michael Keaton, had the weekends best per screen average of over $28,700. Compare that to the $7,000 per screen for OUIJA, and BIRDMAN blows it out of the water. The movie was on just 50 screens, yet grossed $1.4 million, for the #15 spot on the chart.
