Ratings: Broadcast Finals for October 16, 2012

It was another abbreviated schedule on Tuesday night as the second Presidential Debate aired from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., ET.

The CW took advantage of the other four networks airing the debate and posted decent numbers for its series premiere EMILY OWENS, M.D. Although it lost 18% in the demo ratings, from its lead in, it did grow by 270,000 total viewers. The real test will be next week when it faces its regular competition.

NBC easily took the night with its powerhouse competition series THE VOICE. 12 million viewers (#2) and a huge 4.6 (#1) rating in Adults 18-49. THE VOICE actually lost to DANCING WITH THE STARS in total viewers, but it more than doubled up DWTS in the demo.

The great lead in to the debate also pumped up the post debate numbers for NBC. A 4.0 demo rating and over 11 million viewers may make it the best retention program NBC has had in a while.
